Serving Persons with disabilities (PWDs)

As Member and focal point for International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) and Cluster Munitions Coalition (CMC), SPADO has a global vision to serve PWDs. Persons with disabilities have been the center of attention in all the interventions connected to child protection and Mine Risk Education. SPADO, s campaign against land mines has assisted many a people avoid disability, since these landmines are one of the many apparent causes of disability globally.

SPADO is implementing the “Khud Mukhtar” project for PWDs in district Swat as a genuine effort to make certain the self dependency and self reliance in PWDs. The slogan of the project is “Employment is empowerment”. In the process 170 PWDs will be provided with employments. The program has been designed in a multiple aspect to bring responsiveness and self reliance in PWDs in a sustainable manner. Self help groups of PWDs have been formed in the area proving strong plat forms to achieve their privileges sustainably. The project will be completed within one year and SPADO team is amid the efforts to serve this vulnerable segment of society.

Whereas implementing Child protection projects in various parts of the country together with tribal areas, SPADO has served up Persons with disabilities in a significant way. 200 wheel chairs and 200 were distributed in Swat immediately after the conflict and flood situation in the area.

Likewise more than fifty wheel chairs along with hearing aids respectively were distributed among the disabled IDPs belonging to Bajowr Residing temporarily in Jalozai IDPs Camp. IDPs belonging to Mohmand Agency were also provided with 05 Wheel chairs in Nahqi IDPs camp.

SPADO has published a book namely “disability rights and Islam “to serve these people in a sustainable manner. The book plays its pivotal part in advocacy and mobilization in the relevant domains. In all its child protection interventions, SPADO maintains a separate profile for PWDs and ensures a special focus on their problems and negotiates them on priority basis.

SPADO is committed to carry on with the efforts and to extend the services to various other areas of the country. The flight is afoot and the aim is plain.
