To Struggle for a Better Tomorrow, SPADO Main Focus is on Two Interlinked Components:

1. Peace and Disarmament:

SPADO is the official contact point and member organization of International Campaign To Ban Landmines, laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize 1997. In this regard the organization is involved in various awareness, advocacy and research activities related to the universalization of the Landmine Ban Convention. At the same time SPADO is the active member of Clusters Munitions Coalition (CMC) working against Explosive Remnants of War and Mines other Than Antipersonnel Landmines (MOTAPM). SPADO is the member organization of International Action Network on Small Arms(IANSA) an International Network committed to curb the proliferation of small arms, illicit trade of small arms and to convince governments to make stringent laws to achieve these objectives. SPADO is also an active member of International Peace Bureau (IPB), the world oldest and largest peace network striving towards a world without war. The Executive Director of SPADO is the elected representative of IPB for South Asia. Being a member of IPB, SPADO is involved in various initiatives related to non-violence, tolerance, mutual co-existence and peace and disarmament. Moreover SPADO has the honor of having a group status for the International Fellowship of Reconciliation (IFOR) an international spiritually based movement committed to active non-violence. IFOR has 6 Nobel Peace Prize Laureates among its former and present members. The five main components of our work are Decade for a culture of non-violence, Nonviolence education and training, Youth empowerment, interfaith cooperation and disarmament

2. Relief, Rehabilitation and Development:
This component relates to socio-economic development, where balanced and objective approach is evolved to reduce poverty, which is the main cause of unrest and all other evils and emphasis is given in identifying snags and bottlenecks hindering growth in various sectors. In this regard the organization is actively involved in relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction work in the earthquake affected areas of Pakistan. The organization is active in implementing projects related to education, child protection and health and hygiene education in collaboration with United Nations and other international partner organizations. Moreover, SPADO is also implementing health and sanitation project in the rural areas of North West Frontier Province (NWFP) of Pakistan. Under this component the organization is addressing wide range of issues which include health, education, environment, human rights and food and shelter to achieve accelerated and sustainable development in such vital socioeconomic sector.

Goal:
SPADO aims at providing a peaceful environment to all human beings where they can utilize their potentials for sustainable development.

Objectives:
● To create an economic, political, social, cultural and legal environment that will enable people to achieve sustainable development
● To suggest immediate measures for institution building that enhances human survival, social justice and development
● To promote democracy, human dignity, social justice and solidarity; ensure tolerance, non-violence, pluralism and non-discrimination with full respect for diversity within and among the societies
● To ensure environment friendly sustainable development through efficient allocation of scarce productive resources and minimization of socio-cultural, political and social hindrances in the society
● To assess the socio-cultural factors blocking development and program for survival
● To utilize scarce natural endowments and other man made capital in an efficient manner and provide an environment to every one that is:
(i) conducive to the realization of human potential and authenticity
(ii) free from the menace of weapons and warfare.

Areas of Operation:
SPADO since its inception is involved in addressing various issues related to peace and disarmament, development and poverty reduction. The main areas of the operations are:
Awareness and Advocacy:
• Awareness and advocacy for the universalization of the Landmine Ban Convention through arrangements of seminars, workshops, conferences and other related events
• Awareness and Advocacy against the illegal trade and production of small arms and light weapons
• Advocacy and Networking at Regional, national and provincial levels
• Youth Mobilization and Networking
• Campaign against aerial firing
• Involvement of religious scholars in the campaign against small arms and landmines
• Involvement of media in the campaign against small arms and landmines.

• Data collection of landmine victims in the far-flung areas of the tribal belt, Kashmir and border areas of Sialkot of Pakistan
